Hundreds of thousand of Shia pilgrims - many of them women and childre - set out from Baghdad walking towards the Shia holy city of Karbala on Sun. Feb. 24, 2008 during the Shia observance of Arbaeen which marks the end of 40 days of mourning after the murder of Imam Hussein - the grandson of the Prophet Mohammed and central figure in Shia Islam. This day pilgrims in Baghdad and south of Karbala were attacked by insurgents leaving nearly 50 dead and wounded.
