A heavily laden US soldier feeling the effects of 120 degree temperatures and body armor lies prostrate and seeking relief with a handheld fan as his platoon finishes clearing a large overgrown area in Ahdamiyah - a largely Sunni district in central Baghdad - on the first morning of a large-scale security sweep by US and Iraqi soldiers and police on Sunday August 27, 2006. The sweep is being led by the 172nd Stryker Brigade based in Fairbanks, Alaska. The 172nd was extended at the last moment - with portions of the brigade already back in the States - when they were called upon to bolster security forces in Baghdad seeking to get a handle on a massive wave of sectarian killings in the Iraqi capital.
