Marine Lance Corporal Alex Nicoll recovers from the amputation of his lower left leg at Walter Reed Army Medical Center after being wounded during the Nov. 2004 Battle of Fallujah. Nicoll underwent extensive rehabilitation and physical therapy at Walter Reed - a rehabilitation that included the occasional field trip, including one to ski in Water Valley, Vermont. Nicoll is now medically retired from the Marine Corps. His story is closely associated with that of Sgt. Major Brad Kasal who was badly wounded in the same incident and risked his own life to save the young lance corporal.
