The sweep is being led by the 172nd Stryker Brigade based in Fairbanks, Alaska. The 172nd was extended at the last moment - with portions of the brigade already back in the States - when they were called upon to bolster security forces in Baghdad seeking to get a handle on a massive wave of sectarian killings in the Iraqi capital.
