At an outreach center, a Marine sergeant tasked to screen applicants looking for compensation for damages, deaths, or injuries caused by US forces during four years of fighting in Ramadi holds a photo presented to him by two women on Wednesday May 23, 2007 as proof of damage to the walls of their home caused by automatic weapons. The claim was denied because of a strong suspicion on the part of the sergeant that the home had been used by insurgents as a fighting position and because the women's story changed with each question they were asked.
