Hundreds of family members and friends - carefully divided between side's for men and women - attend a wedding at the lavish Mumtaz Majal wedding hall in Kabul. Glistening wedding halls dot the Kabul city scape and their attendance - which always includes large dinners and energetic dancing - is a mainstay of Kabuli social life. Here men from both sides of the family as well as elders and religious leaders come together to agree on the bride price and solemnize the wedding with verses from the Q'uran. The groom, stands center-left, a relative's hand on his head, as the mullah (seated to his left) recites from the Q'uran. The negotiated bride price was $15,000 - a princely sum to most in impoverished Afghanistan. Summer 2010.
